Pretty much much one of the more underrated bands over the last ten Years, Dawes consistently delivers supreme musicianship and taut songwriting album after album. Here, they take a musical turn on Chris Thile’s Live From Here web series.

Live Video of the Day: Cordovas – This Town’s A Drag (Live at Toe Rag Studios, London)
Rooted in Cosmic Country three-harmony twang, this one is from their 2018 record The Santa Fe Channel. Thes guys blur the line between Rock, Country, and amplified Folk music with the best of them.
Video of the Day: The Bombpops – Notre Dame
Fronted by two dynamic female singers, the Bompops play taut, hooky Southern California Pop-Pong. Sort of a Punk version of The Bangles, their new record Death in Venice Beach, comes out on March 13th.
Video of the Day: The Empty Hearts – Run and Hide
A band that gets regular airplay on Little Steven’s Underground Garage, as well as his label Wicke Cool Records, The Empty Hearts, represent the best of the modern British Invasion bands. A Supergroup that includes Eliot Easton of The Cars, Wally Palmer, you know him as the lead singer for The Romantics, and Clem Burke from Blondie.
Cover Song of the Day: Orville Peck – I Will Always Love You
Orville Peck, with his Classic Johnny Guitar Western wear and tasseled face mask he always wears to add to the mystery, is one of our favorite new artists of 2019. Here for Concert 4 no 1, he pays tribute to two of his heroes, Whitney Houston and Dolly Parton.
Best Songs of 2020: Son Little Never Give Up
Recorded in only 8 Days, Aloha, the upcoming record courtesy of Son Little should help this young artist with an old soul reach the larger audience he deserves.
Video of the Day: Real Estate – Paper Cup (feat. Amelia Meath of Sylvan Esso)
There is a slight Disco vibe to this new Real Estate single, but don’t let that stop you from treating your ears to this highly infectious tune.
Video of the Day: Anna Burch – Not So Bad
Her songcraft was introduced to us with her 2018 debut, Quit the Curse, now, two years later her follow-up promises to be a much more nuanced affair.
Best Songs of 2020: Andy Shauf – Living Room
Coming across like sort of a melodic Tom Waits, this Toronto-based singer-songwriter and his observational tales will be on full display with his new record, The Neon Skyline, to be released later in the year.
Video of the Day: The Third Mind – Claudia Cardinale
A Supergroup of sorts, the band includes Dave Alvin, Jesse Sykes among others. The concept for the group centers around the Miles Davis method, a technique where there are no rehearsals or written musical arrangements. The band simply decides on a key and the music flows from there. The sound is very much influenced by the ’60s underground scene including Roky Erickson, Alice Coltrane, and Michael Bloomfield. Look for an E.P. to be released February 2020.
