Teamwork, the newly released record from Athens, Ga. based Futurebirds is well worth your ear-time and is already announcing itself as a worthy entrant on anyone end of the year list. Their blend of Country-tinged Roots Rock and three-part harmonies are partly laid back chill listens and part psychedelic head-trip slices of escapism.
In some circles singer-songwriter, Katie Pruitt has been described as the female Jason Isbell, but she prefers to see herself as more of a Sheryl Crow vibing artist. Either way, we are looking forward to her debut album, Expectations, scheduled for release on February 21st.
Ashley McBryde certainly stands out from the current crop of Nashville artists. Much less glossy and a lot more tattoo-centric than her contemporaries she has a bit more grit than one would expect. This new and eclectic singer-songwriter from Italy has a new record, Beyond Space and Time, Coming out on January 24th. This song is a folk-inflected number that captures the feelings of a person that sees his familiar world growing increasingly strange.
Jose Feliciano is back doing his thing and he has been very much been missed. This version of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” allows Jose to put his guitar mastery on full display with a show that would make Lindsay Buckingham proud. This is his best cover song since the cover song hall of fame worthy, “Light My Fire”.
John Anderson is still Swinging. Here, he teams up with our buddy Dan Auerbach at Easy Eye Sound on a tune that is part Country and part Indie Rock. Good Stuff. We can’t wait for the album.
Proof that there is indeed a musical God, Van Weezer, to be released in 2020, is a tribute to 70’s and 80’s guitar rock in general and Van Halen in particular. Front man Rivers Cuomo describes the album as being like the Blue album “but a little more riffy”.
